TIPS & TRICKS

Want to try and take out the title this year?  Here are some tips and ideas to help you plan your 2015 outfit!

Plan your outfit around the notion of elegance. The racing calendar is about daytime grooming not dark bar dinge, so it's better to channel a Church-goer's Sunday best than the sins committed the night before.  Fashions at the race track should remain rather classically styled

Some Key Trends for 2015

  • Lace & embroidery

  • Ruffles & shoulder detail

  • Pops of Colour – BUT…black & white are classic & always in!

  • Silhouettes that are ladylike

  • Structured & severe tailoring

  • Hemlines that are to the knee or below

Trackside fashion requires that every element of your outfit – your hair and makeup, hat, shoes and of course your handbag or clutch – should work together harmoniously with your race day clothes.

Strong fashion statements on race day need not be made with bold pieces. Prints and colour on classic cuts are all what race day fashion is about.  The best race day clothes are those that put a modern take on a classic style.

Some things to remember…

  • Never underestimate the power of accessories to bring out true race day glamour. When choosing your accessories for your race day clothing, don’t be afraid of colour. Be creative and have some fun. Show off your personal style or include a piece of interest.

  • Vibrant hats, floral features or a fascinator are all choices of head wear available to you.

  • Opt for a comfortable heel height you know you can handle.

  • A key fashion accessory for any race day is your handbag! Choose a full of bold, vibrant coloured designer handbag that sets off your race day outfit.

  • Keep your makeup simple and not overly dramatic or too heavy. Focus on one feature, for example a bold, bright lip or a smoky eye. Not both.

  • Opt for a low-maintenance hairstyle like a slicked pony-tail or a bun. It will outlast curls and look great all day without touch-ups.

  • Other finishing touches like gloves and brooches, can really make an outfit shine.

In summation pay attention to detail with race day fashion; the little things still count.  Above all make sure you wear something that you feel good in and suits you and enjoy the day.

As fashion editor Diana Vreeland said the only real elegance is in the mind; if you’ve got that, the rest really comes from it.
